About

Vendetta is the second game in Konami's Crime Fighters trilogy. Although it features goofy humor, 4-player simultaneous gameplay, and moderate challenge, it breaks from tradition with its huge movesets and strong emphasis on items. In fact, this is hands-down the most weapons-heavy beat 'em up. It's got bats, knives, whips, chains, and even a shotgun.

Marquee
Story

The Dead End Gang, who dominate Dead End City, are looking to expand their territory. Only their rival gang, The Cobras, stand in their way.

( COBRAS ) MEMBER BLOOD, EX-PRIZE FIGHTER

( COBRAS ) MEMBER HAWK, FORMER PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER

( COBRAS ) MEMBER BOOMER, MARTIAL ARTS

( COBRAS ) MEMBER SLEDGE, EX-MILITARY CONVICT

( COBRAS ) MEMBER KATE, FORMER PROTEGE OF HAWK

Cobras, we kidnapped a chick. You want her back, you know where to go. We'll be waiting...

Trivia

Vendetta is one of the only brawlers with fighters that feature realistic human proportions. Blood, Boomer, and Sledge have musculature that can be realistically achieved without the use of steroids. Although Hawk is huge, he's actually a little smaller than Hulk Hogan in his prime.

Vendetta is the US version of Crime Fighters 2. Like Crime Fighters before it, several elements were removed in the US release. Most notably, the gay stereotype and humping dog enemies have been completely cut.

Buckets get stuck on the enemy's head, rendering them blind. Bricks do tremendous damage and immediately kill most enemies. Dynamite explodes in a huge radius after a short while. Molotovs create a pool of fire that burns for a while.

Trivia

Blood, Boris from Violent Storm, and Rash from BattleToads are the only brawler characters who constantly wear shades.

Like Matt from Undercover Cops, Blood is always smiling.

Tips

Blood's punches are better than kicks. He's more adept at sidestepping in and firing off a quick punch combo than trying to range enemies with kicks.

Blood's fast ground attack is second only to Sledge's. Against difficult opponents, do your best to knock them down and beat them senseless before they get up.

Trivia

Just like the real-life Hulk Hogan, Hawk has a strong daughter that's also into fighting. Seeing as how his daughter's full name is Kate Kutie, that must mean Hawk's full name is Hawk Kutie.

Hawk is the only beat 'em up character whose jeans are ripped.

Tips

Hawk's punches have significantly less range than the other Cobras. Learn to use his kicks and jump attack to close in on the opponent.

Hawk's Elbow Drop is the strongest yet slowest ground attack. Usually you can only get off one or two against a grounded opponent. Don't get greedy.

Trivia

Boomer was the main character of Crime Fighters (the prequel to this game.) He rescued an entire harem of girls in that one.

Due to the fact that he's a martial artist who specializes in kicking, Boomer may be based off of Jean-Claude Van Damme. However, his face and haircut are more reminiscent of Schwarzenegger.

Sledge blasts enemies with his shotgun. Does tremendous damage, hits in a wide range, and does knockdown. Kills almost every single enemy in a single hit, and one blast can hit multiple enemies. Do your best to use your limited ammunition wisely.

Sledge throws his equipped item. Always does knockdown, but damage varies by item type. Crates and pots do decent damage but break immediately. Barrels and wheels keep rolling, doing extra damage. Buckets get stuck on the enemy's head, rendering them blind. Bricks do tremendous damage and immediately kill most enemies. Dynamite explodes in a huge radius after a short while. Molotovs create a pool of fire that burns for a while.

Trivia

Sledge has the same haircut as Mr. T, but lacks the jewelry and is a different race.

Sledge is the only brawler character whose jump attack is a ridiculous flying headbutt. Unfortunately, this move is nearly useless.

Tips

Sledge's normal attacks are the best in the game due to their solid speed and damage. His ground attack is also the best for this reason.

Sledge's retarded jump attack is really hard to hit with. Consider avoiding this move altogether. His strong attack also has pathetic range but can be useful to finish out a combo against a close opponent.

Enemies

Thug A

Mook Grabber

Rng
Thr

Thug is the most basic mook of the game. He often appears in groups and can actually fire off a damaging punch-combo when he gets too close. Sometimes he rides a motorcycle. Wait for him to get off or risk getting hurt. He can also sneak up behind you and grab you from behind, immobilizing you until you kick him off.

Thug B

Thug B has a little more health than Type A but is otherwise the same.

Thug C

Thug C appears in pairs in the middle of the third stage. The duo runs at you and attempts to clothesline you, then attacks normally. Thug C always dies in one hit. Carefully avoid his dash-attack and easily defeat him. Or, if you have big balls, defeat them both with a well-timed bat strike.

Thug D

Thug D is the strongest of his kind, but fights the same as Types A and B.

Bat Punk

Bat Punk keeps his distance and attempts to knock you down with a bat strike. He can also immobilize you by grabbing you from behind. Do your best not to fight him head-on. Knock him down and finish him with ground attacks. He always drops a bat when killed.

Knife Punk A

Weapon Projectile

Stm

Knife Punks are cagey fighters who try to keep their distance and poke you with their knives. Sometimes they chuck dynamite, molotov cocktails, and knives at you. They have decent health and speed. They tend to punish kick combos so use punches instead. Alternately, knock him down and finish him with ground attacks.

Knife Punk B

Type B is marginally stronger than Type A, and drops a knife when defeated. Also, they don't use weapons other than knives.

Chain Punks aren't very strong or fast but they have good reach and can really take a beating. They can grab you from behind, and their grab is stronger than Thugs or Bat Punks. Knock them down and wail on them. They always drop a chain.

Shotgun Punk

Shotgun Punks are extremely slow but have a ton of health, power, and reach. They have an absurd amount of stamina. Sometimes they'll recover quickly and punish your ground attacks with a shotgun blast to the nuts. They can also attack you while grounded. Do your best to keep him incapacitated by knocking him down. He drops a powerful shotgun when defeated.

The whip-wielding Dominatrix has huge reach and a powerful long-range grab that immobilizes you for a while. Do your best to stay off of her vertical plane, and keep her incapacitated with knockdowns. She drops a useful whip when defeated.

Hard Gay is a Japanese stereotype of a flaming homosexual. He slowly walks up to you and humps your butt when he's close. He has a lot of health but is weak besides that. He's present in Crime Fighters 2 (Japanese version) but was removed from Vendetta (international version.)

Armored Bruiser

Charger

Thr

Armored Bruiser is slow yet tough and powerful. When he's not charging at you, he tries to punish your kick-combos with a karate slice to your throat. Sometimes he enters the fight wielding a huge piece of wood that gives his charge attack significant vertical range. Stay at the top or bottom of the screen to avoid this. He also picks up and throws crates at you. Use punch-combos or knockdowns + ground attacks to defeat him, and use caution. He's also terrified of cats. When he sees one, he'll be momentarily stunned.

Fat Bruiser

Fat Bruiser has a ton of health but is otherwise fairly unremarkable. He sometimes jumps at you with a bellyflop attack. He's particularly vulnerable to ground-attacks because he takes a long time to get up.

Flasher mainly attacks by opening up his trenchcoat and shooting out two moltov cocktails. He also has a grab-attack as well as a kick that does knockdown. Keep your distance while he's flashing, then knock him down with a jump attack and beat the crap out of him when he's grounded.

Doberman is a fast dog that either bites your feet or humps your butt, both of which immobilize you. He can only be defeated with kick attacks. Do your best to attack him aggressively or he'll hold you down so other enemies can easily defeat you.

Rng
Thr

Buzzsaw Bravado is a leather-clad punk with a stupid-looking reverse mohawk.

B.B. is slow, predictable, and easily combo'd. However, he does have decent reach and power. Some of his attacks have vertical range as well. Sometimes he'll execute a vertical swipe, getting his buzzsaw stuck in the ground. Use this time to get behind him and unleash a full combo. He's easily knocked down with strong or jumping attacks. Be careful about getting too greedy with ground attacks because he'll punish you.

Joe Ohsugi

Joe Ohsugi is a miniboss who rocks pink jeans, a black beater, sunglasses, and a Steven Seagal-esque ponytail. He wields a kusari-gama (Japanese chain-scythe.)

Joe Ohsugi is fast and has great range but is relatively weak and easy to defeat. He jumps around to get some distance then either attempts to immobilize you with his chain or throw three shuriken (throwing stars) at you. Stay off of his vertical plane and step in when he's executing an attack to punish. Knock him down and beat the crap out of him or bring a chain to the fight and give him a taste of his own medicine.

Missing Link

Weapon Grabber Jumper

Stm
Pow
Spd
Rng
Thr

Missing Link, the Humanic Weapon, is a giant neanderthal draped in chains.

Missing Link is very powerful and has huge reach (his chain attack can even hit vertically) but his fighting style is predictable. When you're very close, he'll grab you. Kick him rapidly to escape. At medium distance, he'll swipe with his chains. At far distance, he'll execute a three-hit jump attack which he can be knocked out of prematurely. Sometimes he'll roar and lift both his arms up, knocking you back but doing no damage. Sidestep in and fire off a rapid punch combo to defeat him. Favor patience over aggression.

Rude Bros.

Weapon Duo Jumper Grabber

Stm
Pow
Spd
Rng
Thr

The Rude Bros. are bald twin brothers wearing purple pimp-suits minus the hats. Although they have the same face, one of them is a giant man while the other is an acrobatic knife-wielding midget named Freddy the Freak. This fight is based off of the Frankenstein/Igor boss fight from CastleVania.

The Rude Bros. are the trickiest bosses in the game. Each bro has individual health, but the fight is only over once you defeat the bigger bro. Ironically, the small brother is a far greater threat due to his extreme speed and evasion. He'll rapidly jump all over the place and can even attack you while you're downed. Sometimes the bros will team up and try to grab you, but they're weaker in this form because they move so slowly. In single player, try to get Freddy the Freak up against a wall and repeatedly kick him until he's dead, then easily defeat the taller bro. In co-op games, each person should focus on one bro.

Kruel Kurt

Weapon

Stm
Pow
Spd
Rng
Thr

Kruel Kurt is a skinhead wearing pink jeans and a spiked leather vest. He attacks you with an anchor.

Kruel Kurt is significantly easier than the Rude Bros., mainly due to his fairly non-aggressive fighting style. He tends to keep his distance and carefully poke you with his anchor, but he's too slow to be effective at this. He has a spinning attack that lasts a while and grants him invincibility, but other than that he's a pushover. Try to knock him down, attack him on the ground, and bust out a strong attack right as he gets up to keep him grounded. When he starts spinning, get as far away from him as possible.

Faust

Faust is a giant man with a wild orange mane of hair. He wears sunglasses and leather fetish gear. He's based off of Goethe's Faust: a man who chose human pleasures over integrity.

Faust has a ton of health, is super strong, has a powerful grab attack, and occasionally barfs a poison cloud at you. However, he's pretty slow. At certain damage thresholds, he'll summon more minions (and is invincible while doing it.) Sidestep in at the right moment and unleash a rapid punch combo to defeat him. He's also very vulnerable to ground attacks. When he's about to die, he'll run to the corners and shoot you with an automatic rifle. Stand right next to him and rapidly punch to prevent this. He doesn't use the gun the second time you fight him.
